Empire State Folo

NPR's Melissa Block reports on today's reopening of the observation deck at the Empire State Building. Two days ago, a gunman there killed a tourist, wounded six others, and then fatally shot himself. Officials have now installed metal detectors for those visiting the deck, and are searching bags. The attack brought much criticism from New York City's Mayor Rudolph Giuliani about how the shooter, 69 year old Palestinian Ali Hassan Abu Kamal, was able to legally buy the gun in Florida, despite only having been in the country for a month. Abu Kamal's family say he was distraught after losing his life's savings. However, notes found on his body may point to another direction.
