Organizers of the annual American Red Cross "Evening of Stars" says this year's event broke fundraising records.
Last month's appearance by Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, who gained fame for heroically landing a jet airliner on the Hudson River, brought in more than $225,000. Red Cross of the Heartland officials say it's the largest amount ever raised in a single night for the event, which has been held annually since 1994.
During that time, Evening of Stars has brought in more than $2.2 million to help support services provided by the Bloomington-based Red Cross chapter.
