Just under 40% of McLean County's population is now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

McLean County’s active COVID-19 caseload has fallen to its lowest level in nearly seven months.

The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) reports 161 active coronavirus cases. That’s the fewest since Oct. 1, when the active caseload was 155. There are 140 county residents in home isolation. That’s the fewest reported since Aug. 18.

Another 21 county residents are hospitalized with COVID complications--a decrease of one patient in the past day.

MCHD added 12 new confirmed or probable COVID cases to the tally on Thursday. The new cases were found in a batch of about 1,100 test results returned overnight. The county’s testing positivity rate (7-day rolling) ticked down slightly to 2.4%.

An additional 876 COVID vaccine doses were administered in McLean County in the past day, according to state data. Illinois Department of Public Health figures show 145,794 total doses administered in McLean County, with 68,938 residents fully vaccinated. That’s about 39.89% of the population.

Ahead of the holiday weekend, health officials are issuing a reminder that relaxed masking guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention apply only to fully vaccinated people. It takes two weeks after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the single-dose Johnson & Johnson shot to be considered fully vaccinated.

MCHD notes no child under the age of 16 is fully vaccinated, due to the timeline of when the vaccine was approved for younger ages.

For those who are not fully vaccinated, MCHD encourages mask wearing and social distancing. Outdoor gatherings are preferred. Direct contact should only be made with people in your immediate household.

For more information on when and where to get vaccinated, visit MCHD’s website.
