A toll monopole in the Spoon River territory for Ameren is similar to ones planned for the McLean County project.

Ameren Illinois has won approval from state regulators to begin construction next year on a $21 million transmission line project that will stretch across McLean County.

The 10-mile, 138,000-volt line will run from west of Hudson to a substation at Hershey and Raab roads. The project, now approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission, is part of a larger Ameren plan to improve the efficiency and reliability of its electric delivery system in central and southern Illinois.

“The approval of the McLean County Reliability Project is a significant milestone toward strengthening the local area's energy reliability,” Jami Stone, senior project manager of the McLean County Reliability Project, said in a statement Tuesday. “We're appreciative of the community's feedback to help us develop this route and receive project approval.”

Construction will begin in 2019, and the new line should be in service by December 2020.

"We look forward to more discussions and continuing to work with McLean County landowners, county officials and other state and local agencies as this beneficial project progresses," said Stone.

Last year during the public input process, Ameren said each of its Illinois customers would have to pay about $1.50 per year for 60 years for the improvements in McLean County.
