Bloomington-Normal Unemployment Rate Falls In July, 200 Jobs Added

The Bloomington-Normal unemployment rate fell to 4.1% in July, down from 4.6% a year ago.

The Bloomington-Normal unemployment rate fell in July as the economy added 200 jobs from this time a year ago.

The jobless rate fell to 4.1% in July, down from 4.6% a year ago, the Illinois Department of Unemployment Security reported Thursday.

The statewide jobless rate is now 4.2%. The national unemployment rate is 4%.

The Illinois Department of Unemployment Security reported the Bloomington-Normal area's nonfarm job force grew by 200 to 89,900 since July 2018. Job gains were seen in government (+300), leisure and hospitality (+300), financial activities (+200), and professional and business services (+200).

The agency reported declines in manufacturing (-400) and retail trade (-200).

There were an estimated 3,900 unemployed people in the local labor force in July.
