BHS Freshmen Excited For New School, New Experiences

Bloomington High School freshmen had their first day of school August 20, 2018.

Bloomington High School (BHS) welcomed this year’s freshman class Monday with a cookout and game day.

The first day of school is for freshmen and new students only, giving them time to connect with classmates and learn more about the school before the upperclassmen join them in the halls.

District 87 freshmen said they're excited about the opportunity to do new things this year like taking business classes and playing on sports teams.

BHS freshman Jack Weltha grew up being involved in the high school. His dad’s a teacher. He said he’s feeling the anticipation of a new year at a new school.

“It feels awesome,” Weltha said. “It’s a little bit different of an environment as well, just from Bloomington Junior High School to the high school in general, but it’s a transition. But, it’s nice though. I love it.”

Aaliyah Hibbler-Christiansen said she has an older brother who is a sophomore at the school, but she was still “a little nervous” coming in as a freshman.

“I know some people because in the junior high, but like, new people and plus the juniors, sophomores and seniors are going to be coming in, so it’s just going to be different,” Hibbler-Christiansen said.

Freshmen had a shortened schedule in the morning to get a peek into all of their classes before being released for lunch and games. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors start school Tuesday.
