The Unit 5 school board this week is interviewing three finalists to become the district’s new superintendent.
The second-round interviews began Monday night and continue Tuesday night and Thursday. Special meetings of the school board are scheduled for each night at Normal City Hall.
The three finalists have not been publicly identified. The board decided last fall to conduct a confidential search, in hopes of attracting the strongest possible pool of candidates. Only the final candidate’s name will be announced publicly, said Board President Barry Hitchins.
Current Unit 5 Superintendent Mark Daniel is leaving the district in June after his three-year contract ends. The school board expects to identify its top choice by late December or early January, followed by reference calls and a “deep background check,” according to its timeline.
The board is expected to vote on the new superintendent’s contract by Jan. 20, 2020. The person would start July 1, 2020.
