Funds and Endowments
WGLT FUNDS
The Friends of WGLT fund is vital for annual programming costs and daily operations. More than half of our annual funding comes from individual donors and local businesses/organizations. Gifts to this fund are immediately allocated in the current fiscal year.
The WGLT Facilities and Equipment fund supports our growing and ever-evolving needs for new equipment, repairs, and upgrades to outdated technology. Our station hosts a master control studio, production studios, traveling reporter kits, satellite and transmission equipment, computer equipment, and much more.
WGLT ENDOWMENTS
Gifts are immediately invested and each year a distribution, like dividends on a mutual fund account, is made. Investment earnings above the dividend rate help the endowment value grow over time to keep pace with inflation and maintain the endowment’s spending power.
WGLT maintains two endowments to which donors may add to the principals.
Dr. Robert and Marilyn Sutherland Endowment
WGLT supporters since 1986, the Sutherlands pioneered a new form of support for WGLT, creating the first–ever endowment in the station’s history.
Gifts to the Sutherland Endowment provide more secure footing for funding than having to rely on governmental commitment and audience fundraising in economically uncertain times. One of the many benefits of this endowment is to help fund annual scholarships for student journalists.
The WGLT Future Fund sustains WGLT as a vital community resource and protect the station's public service from the uncertainty of future government support.
Gifts to the Future Fund help ensure the annual support WGLT must have to provide a local newsroom, innovative programming, ideas, entertainment and engagement that are the cultural and educational fiber of a strong community.
