Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis said he's confident Bradley University will emerge from its financial struggles stronger than before.
Ardis thanked the university, outgoing President Gary Roberts, and the board of trustees searching for Roberts' successor in his State of the City Address. He said it was an intentional show of solidarity.
"Bradley's having some challenges with their budget, similar to the city and everybody else. And as they address their challenges, we just wanted to make a very overt statement that we know they'll get through it just fine," Ardis said following his speech.
Bradley is considering phasing out the theater, physics, and family and consumer sciences majors as part of a larger reprioritization to eliminate an $8 million deficit over the next several years. The University would reallocate some savings to higher-performing programs.
