Tazewell County's first COVID-19 related death was a man in his 80s living at an East Peoria assisted care facility.

The man died Monday in an area hospital. Tazewell County Health Department spokeswoman Sara Sparkman said four other residents of Generations at Riverview also tested positive for COVID-19. Two additional tests are pending.

"The people that are confirmed cases are hospitalized," she said. "The residents who are still in the facility are isolated to their rooms."

Sparkman said staff are wearing personal protective equipment. She said only essential healthcare workers have been able to enter Generations at Riverview since March 13.

There are 32 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Tri-County, including 14 in Tazewell. A 91-year-old man who died from the virus Saturday also lived in an assisted living facility, the Bickford of Peoria. His significant other is undergoing testing.
