Tri-County health officials reported 170 new COVID-19 infections over the weekend, bringing the region’s total to 2,288 since the start of the pandemic.

The figures announced Monday included 94 new cases in Peoria County for a total of 1,598. Tazewell County added 59 new positives for a sum of 535, while Woodford County’s total increased by 17 to 155. No new deaths were reported.

Last week, Tazewell County was designated with a “coronavirus warning level” by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH)  after exceeding the state benchmarks for cases per 100,000 people. On Wednesday, all three counties posted record single-day increases.

Fourteen of the 39 patients still hospitalized in the Tri-County area remain in intensive care, while 62.4% of those infected have recovered.

Illinois confirmed 1,319 new cases Monday, but only one death. More than 195,000 people in the state have contracted the virus and more than 7,600 have died.
