The Peoria City/County Health Department is now using a "1st dose saver" request form to be put on a COVID-19 vaccination wait list.
"That way, if we have an extra dose, if we have a no-show, what we would do is we'll actually go to that list and start calling individuals off of it," said Health Department Administrator Monica Hendrickson.
She said there's currently more than 1,000 names on that waitlist--a number she doesn't expect to drop anytime soon as vaccine supplies remain extremely limited.
Hendrickson also encouraged exploring other options, like the Kroger, HyVee, and Walgreens pharmacies that are currently booking appointments.
"The biggest thing we want to take away is that if you have a chance to get vaccinated, get the vaccine," she said.
People who are eligible to receive a vaccine under the 1A or 1B groups can navigate to the health department website to add their name to the "1st Dose Saver" list.
Tazewell County is now offering online vaccination appointment scheduling on its health department website. And Woodford County says it also plans to offer an online scheduling option in the near future.
