Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford Counties All Top 20% Fully Vaccinated

One out of every five adults in all three counties in the Tri-County area is now fully vaccinated for COVID-19, while hospitalizations for coronavirus infections continue to rise.

Illinois Department of Public Health figures updated Thursday show Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford all above 20% of residents being fully dosed: 21.65% for Peoria, 20.1% for Woodford, and 20.06% for Tazewell. Collectively, the three have amassed 73,372 completely vaccinated individuals, or 20.9% of the region’s population.

The Tri-County added 1,940 shots since Wednesday, bringing the total number of injections to 180,477. The region’s daily average for administered over the past week stands at 2,331. Illinois as a whole has administered 5.9 million shots and 2.2 million residents are fully dosed, or 17.3% of the population.

Tri-County health officials reported 74 patients with COVID-19 admitted to Peoria-area hospitals, including 16 individuals in intensive care units. That marks the most ICU beds in use for coronavirus infections since 26 on Feb. 8.

With 285 new COVID-19 cases added in the past day, the Tri-County’s total moved to 37,498 since the start of the pandemic – and 1,365 in the past week alone. No new fatalities were reported, keeping the region’s death toll over the past year at 597.

The IDPH recorded 3,526 more coronavirus infections and 25 new deaths in the past day. The state's totals increased to 1,248,111 illnesses and 21,326 lives lost.
