Washington Mayor Gary Manier will keep that title for the next four years after narrowly fending off a challenge from Ward 1 Alderman Lilija Stevens.
Manier defeated Stevens by just 83 votes in a Tazewell County municipal election that sometimes took on a negative tenor.
Stevens conceded to Manier, a five-term incumbent, on Tuesday night.
"Although I am disappointed, I was very excited to have been part of Washington’s 1st nonpartisan mayoral election. I would like to thank the people of Washington for their support throughout this historic campaign," Stevens said.
She said she intends to continue serving out the next two years as a Ward 1 Alderman.
