Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The Tri-County region added 205 new COVID-19 cases and five new deaths Friday, as Peoria County moved above the 30% threshold for fully vaccinated residents with Tazewell and Woodford counties close behind.

The latest fatalities include a Tazewell County woman in her 50s and man in his 80s, and three Woodford County residents ranging from their 70s to 90s. The region’s death toll since the start of the pandemic stands at 640 while the case count is at 42,600.

Hospitalization numbers for the region were delayed; the Peoria City/County Health Department said new numbers will be released Monday. On Thursday, area hospitals reported their highest hospitalization rates since the start of the pandemic.

Updated vaccination figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health showed Peoria County with 54,433 fully vaccinated residents, which is 30.14% of the population. Tazewell and Woodford both checked in at 29.7%, as the Tri-County as a whole totaled 105,158 fully dosed individuals, or 29.9%.

The three counties have totaled 234,768 injections, with 2,695 shots added since Thursday and a daily average of 2,115 over the past week. Illinois as a whole has logged 8.6 million shots in arms and is up to 28.6% of residents fully vaccinated.

The IDPH reported 3,369 new COVID-19 cases and 22 more deaths since Thursday. The state’s totals since last March increased to 1,316,091 infections and 21,777 fatalities. The rolling seven-day positivity rate ticked down to 4.3%.
