McLean County health officials are reporting the lowest single-day COVID-19 case count in nearly a month and a half, with 24 new confirmed or probable coronavirus cases added on Tuesday.

The new cases were found in a batch of about 500 test results returned overnight, according to data from the McLean County Health Department (MCHD).

This brings the county’s total since the start of the pandemic to 17,967. The county’s death toll remains at 224. The testing positivity rate (7-day rolling) held at 3.5%.

The number of McLean County residents hospitalized with coronavirus complications is down one, to 34 patients.

Bloomington-Normal hospital capacity tightened in the past day. Just 7% of all hospital beds are open—down more than 10% from Monday’s capacity. Intensive care bed usage remains at 92%.

The active caseload is dropping. There are 331 county residents isolating at home, while an additional 55 people are now considered recovered. McLean County’s recovery rate is about 96.7%.

MCHD figures show just under 800 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the past day. That brings the county’s total to 130,228 doses in arms.

Health officials are prepared to begin scheduling appointments for kids ages 12-15, following the formal recommendation of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved use of the Pfizer vaccine for this age group on Monday. The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) will meet Wednesday to weigh approval.
