The McLean County Health Department reported 28 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday.

Another McLean County resident has died from COVID-19 complications. The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) reports it is a woman in her 60s who did not live in long-term care. Her death brings the county's total since the start of the pandemic to 228.

The health department reported 28 new confirmed or probable COVID cases on Wednesday, as the testing positivity rate (7-day rolling) rose slightly to 2.6%. The new cases were found in a batch of about 12,000 test results returned overnight.

COVID hospitalizations are down. There are 22 residents being treated—a drop of four in the past day. Bloomington-Normal hospitals have 17% open bed capacity. Intensive care bed use is at 81%.

McLean County’s active COVID caseload dropped for the fifth consecutive day. There are 160 people isolating at home, while an additional 32 people are now considered recovered.

Another 524 COVID vaccine doses were administered in McLean County in the past day, according to state data. That brings the total to 144,918 total doses administered and 68,440 residents fully vaccinated—or 39.6% of the population.

McLean County health officials are reminding residents that it takes two weeks after their second vaccine dose to be considered fully vaccinated.

MCHD spokesperson Marianne Manko said people who want to celebrate the 4th of July safely will need to get their first dose by Friday, May 28, to be fully vaccinated by the holiday. That date is June 18 for those receiving the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
