Teenager from Normal killed in crash with school bus

Normal Fire Department truck

A 19-year-old Normal man was killed Friday when his vehicle crashed into a school bus, authorities said.

Gavin Lartz was driving when his vehicle struck the school bus around 11:49 a.m. Friday near Main and Summit streets in Normal, near Fairview Park, authorities said. The school bus was empty except for the driver.

Fire Department crews had to extricate Lartz from his vehicle. He was taken to the hospital and later died. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.

The crash remains under investigation by the McLean County coroner’s office, Normal Police Department, and the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team.
