A winter storm warning goes into effect at midnight through Thursday evening. Bloomington-Normal is expecting 6 to 11 inches of snow.
A change from rain to mixed precipitation will occur late Wednesday night, the National Weather Service said. That change over to snow should occur by 8 a.m. Thursday along the Interstate 55 corridor.
The heaviest snow accumulation will be from late Thursday morning through the afternoon.
Plan on slippery road conditions Thursday. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commute. Gusty north winds of 35 to 40 mph will also create blowing and drifting snow and blizzard like conditions with reduced visibilities.
The winter storm warning is in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday.
A potent winter storm will bring a variety of wx impacts to C & SE IL late tonight thru tomorrow. Heavy rain will create possible flooding; icing, heavy snowfall, and gusty winds will make for very difficult travel conditions.
