A fire at 1700 N. School Street displaced residents overnight.

A fast-moving fire destroyed a unit in the Lincoln Square Apartment complex Sunday night, displacing the occupants of three apartments.

No injuries were reported.

Spokesperson Matt Swaney said the Normal Fire Department responded to numerous 911 calls reporting an apartment fire at 1700 N. School Street at around 9:15 on Sunday night. Callers reported visible fire and smoke and that occupants were evacuating from the building. Arriving on scene, firefighters reported heavy fire out of the front and back of one apartment unit.

Off-duty Normal personnel and the Bloomington Fire Department were also called to the scene.

Firefighters extinguished the main body of the fire in about 15 minutes. They worked to ventilate the structure and check for hot spots and fire spread in the walls, attic, and adjoining apartments for another hour.

Normal Paramedics evaluated the occupant of the affected apartment and found no injuries. No emergency personnel were injured.

The American Red Cross is assisting the occupants of the fire-damaged apartment as well occupants of adjoining apartments.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
