Bloomington Police said Friday it appears a 35-year-old Texas man fatally shot his son and spouse before turning the gun on himself.

Those shootings happened Tuesday inside an apartment in the 1000 block of Four Seasons Road in Bloomington.

In a statement Friday, Bloomington Police said their preliminary investigation suggests that the homicides were a result of a domestic violence incident in which the suspect, Lawrence D. Clemons III, killed his biological 6-year-old son, Matthias E. Clemons, and his spouse, Brittney C. Harmon. After killing his son and spouse, Lawrence Clemons fatally shot himself, police said.

"This is a worst-case scenario of domestic violence," Police Chief Jamal Simington said in a statement. "I am saddened by the loss of life in our community, and even more disheartened that our community lost a 6 year old child. Domestic violence is a serious issue in our community and the nation. As a community, we need to do our best to support victims and survivors of domestic violence, in any way we can. Additionally, this horrific incident has been very difficult for our telecommunicators, patrol officers, crime scene investigators and detectives to experience. I praise all involved, including the Bloomington Fire Department for their professionalism, resilience, and service. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victims."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Jeff Engle at (309) 434-2371 or Detective Tyrel Klein at (309) 434-2366.
