State Police said one person was killed Thursday morning in a crash that has shut down southbound Interstate 55 just southwest of Bloomington-Normal.

The crash happened around 8:55 a.m. on southbound I-55. State Police say a car crashed into the back of a semitrailer truck that was slowed in traffic. The driver of the car, a 51-year-old Naperville man, was killed.

The name of the driver has not yet been released pending family notifications.

This crash is still under investigation.

Southbound I-55 in the area remained closed as of 1:15 p.m., according to State Police.
