Applications for an open seat Bloomington's District 87 school board are being accepted until April 29 after the resignation of a member becomes effective on May 1.

Tammy Houtzel, elected to the position in 2015 and 2019, announced her upcoming move to LeRoy — and the subsequent resignation — during a regular board meeting on Wednesday evening.

The district will have 60 days after May 1 to fill the vacancy. The person appointed to Houtzel's seat will serve the remainder of her four-year term, which is set to end in April 2023.

People who are eligible to apply for the seat on the board must have lived within District 87's limits for one year and be a registered voter.

The district will take applications until April 29 before the remaining board members interview interested candidates.

The new member is expected to be seated during a June 15 meeting.
