Next to Normal Story Slam began in May 2018 as the brainchild of Devon Lovell.

The art of storytelling in front of an audience in Bloomington-Normal was put on hold for two years due to the pandemic. The Next to Normal Story Slam makes its return to the McLean County Arts Center on Friday the 13th with the theme of Luck.

The Next to Normal Story Slam is the brainchild of host, Devon Lovell.

"There was energy around about bringing it back and to have stories again," Lovell said.

And co-host John Bowen has some advice for future storytellers.

"Don't be afraid," he said. "You can tell an honest story in a simple way and have it really really, work, so don't be afraid."

Listen above for advice for the recipe for a great story (spoiler alert: one does not exist) and some changes that are taking place for the story slams.
