A 37-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly pointing a BB gun out of a hotel room window in Normal — a move that sparked a lockdown of the area for about 90 minutes.

It happened just before 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Comfort Suites at 310 Greenbriar Drive, Normal Police said. Someone reported seeing a rifle come out of a hotel room window, pointing toward the nearby Walmart.

Police said officers saw a someone inside the room and "what appeared to be some type of long gun propped up against the wall." The person closed the curtains and window, police said.

Police said they were able to contact the man and he voluntarily exited the room. He was arrested and faces a preliminary charge of disorderly conduct. A BB gun was found in the room, police said.

The public was asked to avoid the area between 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesday as police worked the scene. It was then reopened.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact NPD Criminal Investigations Division at (309) 454-9593 or email cso@npd.org.
