Barb Nathan will retire in mid-February, and will be replaced as CEO by Matt Riehle, the current chief operating officer.

The Westminster board said Tuesday Nathan implemented an extensive strategic plan and a $68 million expansion and renovation during her tenure.

“The Governing Board thanks Barb for her steadfast commitment to bringing the vision for the organization to fruition and we wish her all the best as she steps into her next chapter,” said Westminster Village Board president Sarah Curtis, adding that under Nathan's "tremendous leadership, Westminster Village solidified the organization as the senior living leader and employer of choice in the community."

Before she came to the nonprofit retirement community on the city's east side, Nathan oversaw construction of and ran the Community Cancer Center in Normal. That's now the Carle Cancer Institute.

Riehle, Nathan's current number two, has nine years of experience at Westminster.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Matt into this role as we look forward to the next chapter of stellar leadership and growth,” said Curtis.

Riehle, of Morton, is a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University with a degree in nursing and has dedicated his career to the senior living industry.

Westminster Village offers residential villas for seniors, independent apartment living, assisted living, memory care, and long-term care services.
