A former Bloomington doctor accused of sexually assaulting a patient will plead guilty at a hearing set for Dec. 27, his lawyer told a judge on Thursday, days ahead of the start of his trial on the felony charges.
Shaun Kink was charged with sexually assaulting a woman during a visit to her home in December 2019. The former orthopedic surgeon had treated the woman for an injury to her leg and told authorities he went to her home to discuss paperwork related to a disability claim.
The charge to which Kink will plead guilty to was not disclosed in court.
Defense lawyer Peter Wise and prosecutor Mary Koll declined to comment on specifics of the plea deal.
The plea is expected to come four days before the scheduled opening of Kink’s jury trial.
In June, after the release of DNA test results unfavorable to the former surgeon, Kink changed his version of events to claim the sexual activity was consensual. The defense claimed the alleged victim was “an embellisher and a liar.”
