Bloomington fire officials say a quick response by Beer Nuts staff helped limit damage from a fire at the company’s headquarters on Wednesday morning.
Fire department public information officer Frank Friend said fire crews spotted the fire coming from an oil kettle in a kitchen on the second floor. The department was called to the two-story building at 103 N. Robinson St. at 7:21 a.m.
Friend said smoke was coming from the roof as crews arrived and they used dry chemical extinguishers to put out the fire.
“Smart decisions by the initial (fire crews) determined water would not be a safe method for extinguishment,” Friend said, adding the fire was under control by 7:38 a.m.
“Beer Nuts employees did an outstanding job of notifying us quickly, exiting the building and having a meeting place,” Friend said.
No one was injured in the fire. A damage estimate is not yet known. Friend said the cause is under investigation.
A portion of Washington Street was closed while fire crews remained on scene until about 9 a.m.
