Bloomington Police officers shot and injured a suspect inside an apartment building on Thursday night.
Police said they were responding at around 9:23 p.m. to an armed-subject call where shots had already been fired inside the Turnberry Square apartment complex, just off Cottage Avenue. Police said they made contact with the still-armed suspect in the entryway to the apartment building. Police fired, striking the suspect.
"Officers engaged with the suspect and unfortunately the suspect was ultimately shot," officer Brandt Parsley said.
The suspect was taken to the hospital. Their condition was not disclosed, but Parsley said the man's injuries are not considered life threatening. No officers were injured.
Parsley said the suspect will likely face weapons charges.
Illinois State Police have been called in to conduct an independent investigation of the shooting.
"Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation - Zone 5 is leading an open and ongoing investigation into the use of force portion of this incident," ISP trooper Jayme Bufford said in a statement, adding State Police will turn over its findings to the McLean County state’s attorney’s office when its investigation is completed.
