The City of Bloomington has announced Jeff Jurgens, the city's lead attorney for the last decade, will become its second deputy city manager.

The Bloomington City Council approved the new position last week. City Manager Tim Gleason requested the additional staff person to help manage the city’s growth and strengthen government accountability, he told the council.
“Adding this position could have easily been justified when I began in 2018. I’m not sure everyone realizes the true size and scope of this organization. However, I felt that it was important to assess, then address the organization before making decisions at the highest level,” Gleason said. “I am confident (Jurgens) he will help create a more effectual administrative team and bolster local government accountability.”
Jurgens will work alongside Deputy City Manager Billy Tyus and will supervise several city departments.
“I am excited to take on this new challenge,” Jurgens said. “I look forward to working with city manager Gleason, city council, and staff to help continue improving services and make Bloomington an even better place to live, work and play.”
City officials say Jurgens' salary of $186,000 will remain the same in his new role.
Jurgens will start his new role on May 1 and will continue in his role as city attorney until a replacement is hired.
