The Regional Office of Education (ROE) for McLean, DeWitt, Livingston and Logan counties has filled a vacancy on the District 87 school board.
Cathy Lust ran for a seat on the school board in the April 4 election and came in fourth behind incumbents Veleda Harvey and Mark Wylie and newcomer Courtney Turnbull. They were elected to the three open seats.
Regional superintendent Mark Jontry said the school district asked the ROE to make the appointment because of the timing of the election, the certification of the results and the resignation of former board member Fitzgerald Samedy.
“Dr. David Mouser, Bloomington District 87 Superintendent, reached out to me when this issue became apparent that district counsel recommended that the board not appoint and have the regional superintendent make the appointment as outlined in school code,” Jontry said.
Jontry chose Lust from among four applicants. Lust is a parent, Bloomington High School graduate and retired school psychologist. Most of her career was in District 87.
The appointment is effective immediately.
