The Heartland Community College baseball team is bringing home its first NJCAA Division II national crown.
The top-seeded Hawks earned the championship Saturday with an 8-6 victory over Southeastern Iowa in the NJCAA World Series in Enid, Okla.
Heartland built an 8-1 lead over the first five innings, keyed by Corey Boyette’s two-run triple in the first and a two-run homer by Bobby Atkinson in the fourth.
Jacob Price held Southeastern Iowa hitless over the final two innings to nail down the title. Starting pitcher Meade Johnson earned the victory after racking up 11 strikeouts in five innings.
The Hawks’ undefeated run through the postseason pushed their overall record to 57-5 for head coach Chris Razo.
