Illinois State University graduate student Jelani Day went missing Aug. 24, 2021. His body was discovered Sept. 4 in Peru, Ill.

Jelani Day's family is indicating there may be a development in the case.

In a Facebook post on the Justice for Jelani Day page, family members said that is the reason for postponing the second annual All-White Remembrance Dinner due to take place on Aug. 26. The fundraiser has been rescheduled for Feb. 3, 2024, aligning with National Missing Persons Day.

Day was an Illinois State University graduate student found dead near Peru, Illinois, in 2021, three weeks after he was reported missing. The case remains open and unsolved.

A joint task force investigating Day's death includes the Bloomington, LaSalle and Peru police departments, and the Chicago division of the FBI. The Bloomington Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for information; the FBI declined to comment on an ongoing investigation.

Ticket holders for the event may attend on the new date, request a refund or yield their tickets as a donation to the Jelani Day Foundation. The foundation provides financial support and other resources for families of color searching for missing loved ones.
