Registration is open for McLean County's sixth annual Community Behavioral Health Forum, and this year, it’s free. The daylong event is scheduled for Oct. 19 at Illinois State University’s Bone Student Center.

It brings together behavioral health leaders and community members to discuss the problems impacting people today.

In a news release, the county said the event is for more than just people who work in the field.

“Every demographic is touched by the reaches of behavioral health issues,” the county wrote. “The day is designed for all community members to be able to attend and learn together, from behavioral health professionals to those just wanting to learn more.”

Tara Powell, a professor of social work at the University of Illinois, will give the keynote address. It will focus on healing from community trauma.

There also will be an all-day resource fair and breakout sessions on topics such as breaking the mental health stigma and law and justice. There will be 32 total breakout sessions.

Continuing education credits are available at a cost. Lawyers also have to pay to attend.

Anyone who registers before Oct. 9 will have a free lunch option. There also is a continental breakfast.

Parking is available at the student center.

More information is available on the McLean County government website. Registration can be made through Carle Health System, which is offering credit opportunities.

Sponsors of the event include the Regional Office of Education #17, the City of Bloomington and the Town of Normal.
