After nearly seven years on the job at Illinois State University, Dan Stephens, the university's vice president of finance and planning, is set to retire come Jan. 1.

Stephens was appointed to the position by former ISU president Larry Dietz in April 2017. Prior to joining ISU, Stephens was the associate chancellor of finance at the University of North Texas three-campus system in Dallas. He had previously held positions at the University of Idaho and Jacksonville University in Florida.

"I'm proud to have been a part of this great institution and feel privileged to have played a key role in several transformative initiatives on campus that will further enhance the University’s stellar reputation in the state and across the nation,” Stephens said in a statement.

ISU interim president Aondover Tarhule credited Stephens with creating "the fiscal model" that supports the university's new College of Engineering and the expansion of the Mennonite College of Learning.

Stephens was also credited with developing the academic enhancement fee, one of several mandatory fees students pay upon enrollment at ISU. The academic enhancement fee is directed toward academic-related building or maintenance projects, building maintenance, and installation or maintenance of technology systems around campus.

In a news release, ISU said plans for interim leadership for the Finance and Planning division were forthcoming.
