3 things to do this weekend: Fancy mansions, Curry plays ZZ Top and holiday fun at Community Players

A wall of nature-themed art with a black banner reading "3 Things to do this weekend" and WGLT logo in white text across the bottom.

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of Dec. 9-10, 2023, curated by WGLT's Lauren Warnecke. You can find more coverage on our Datebook - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WGLT's Weekend Scoop email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

Warm fuzzies at Community Players: Back by popular demand, Matt Drat directs this year’s “Holiday on Robinhood Lane,” a fresh version of the fun, seasonal revue chock full of community-sourced talent and bound to tug at your heartstrings this season. Through 2 p.m. Sunday at Community Players Theatre. Tickets $10 at communityplayers.org.

Matthew Curry’s annual pilgrimage: Rock guitar wunderkind Matthew Curry moved his home base to Nashville a few years ago but comes home once a year for a night at the Castle. Alongside original music, including a new single out last May, Curry has been lately indulging in covers of ZZ Top tunes—a perfect fit for this homegrown roots rocker. 8 p.m. Friday (doors at 7 p.m.) at the Castle Theatre; tickets $17 at thecastletheatre.com.

Three exquisitely decked-out holiday homes: Davis Davis Mansion and Ewing Manor team up to show off the Twin Cities’ finest estates dressed up for the holidays. In Towanda, Duncan Manor opens its doors for self-guided tours and an art market tucked in the mansion’s nooks and crannies. “Christmas at the Mansions” 2-7 p.m. Saturday at Ewing Manor and David Davis Mansion; tickets $15-$20 at daviddavismansion.org. Holiday Open House 2-6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday at Duncan Manor, Towanda; tickets $10 at the door. Details at duncanmanorhouse.com.
