The Salvation Army of McLean County narrowly missed its fundraising goal through its annual red kettle campaign.

The bellringers and annual mail and online appeal brought in $618,000. That's about 5% short of its $650,000 target.

“At a time when the needs of our neighbors have never been greater, critical funding to support them through food pantries, warming shelters, and emergency assistance is vital to ensuring can continue,” said Major Daniel Leisher, Salvation Army Corps Officer.

The Salvation Army hosted a campaign celebration Thursday in which it honored its volunteer bellringers. The Bloomington Fire Department was recognized as the top fundraiser, bringing in $6,821.

The Salvation Army presented its inaugural Scott Laughlin Spirit of Bell Ringing Award to the Bloomington Police Benevolent & Protective Association Unit 21 and the Dave Penn Memorial Volunteer of The Year Award to a team from LiUNA (Laborers Unions International North America) Local 362 which has been volunteering for the Salvation Army for many years.
