The Illinois State University men's basketball team beat No. 23 Indiana State on Tuesday night. It was the Redbirds' first win over a Top 25 opponent since 2016.

The Redbirds won 80-67 on the road against Indiana State. ISU freshman Johnny Kinziger scored a career-high 31 points, the second-most points scored by a freshman in school history.

It was the 13th time that ISU has beaten an AP Top 25 team in the program's history. The last time it happened was Feb. 6, 2016, against Wichita State. Back in 1978, ISU defeated the Sycamores (and their star, Larry Bird) when they were ranked fourth in the country. The Sycamores come into Tuesday's game being nationally ranked for the first time since the Bird era.

Illinois State returns to action Sunday when the team hosts Evansville at CEFCU Arena.
