Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of March 8-10, 2024, curated by WGLT's Lauren Warnecke. You can find more coverage on our Datebook - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WGLT's Weekend Scoop email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

For the Children of the Eighties: It’s not the real thing, but Springfield-based Grateful Dead cover band Sunshine Daydream is a better-than-most jam band, playing both standards and deep cuts from the Dead and Jerry Garcia’s catalogs. 7:30 p.m. Saturday (doors 6:30 p.m.) at Destihl Beer Hall’s Barrel Room; tickets $15 online and at the door.

Disruptive Jazz: Trumpeter Arnetta Johnson grew up with Illinois Wesleyan University jazz head Reginald Lewis, and lucky for us, Lewis convinced this rising star of Philly’s jazz scene to play a set at Jazz Up Front. Johnson’s hip hop-infused style, called “disruptive jazz,” is seen by many as what’s next on the scene; she appears as part of Lewis’ semi-regular appearances at the jazz club—which in general, are not to be missed. 8 p.m. Saturday; tickets $8 online or $10 at the door.

Ramadan kick-off: Bloomington Public Library’s Children’s Department hosts an all-ages celebration with stories, songs and interactive activities ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. 10 a.m. Saturday; free.
