3 things to do this weekend: Gardening, Guinness and Grooves on tap for St. Paddy’s Day

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of March 15-17, 2024, curated by WGLT's Lauren Warnecke. You can find more coverage on our Datebook - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WGLT's Weekend Scoop email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

Green thumb: Take one or both of a pair of workshops at Casey’s Garden Shop and Florist, walking plant enthusiasts of all levels through fairy garden and terrarium building, step by step. 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday; $25-$30 with online registration. Classes repeat March 23 and 24.

Green beer: Sunday is game day for area Irish pubs, and there are festivities at all of them. Maguires, Maggie Mileys, Killarney’s and Luck of the Irish Lounge, the latter in Heyworth, all have some combination of bagpipers, Guiness and corned beef and cabbage—to sop up the beer. Crawford’s Corner Pub pulls out all the stops, with Irish dancing at 1:30 p.m., traditional music from Irish bands Turas and Exorna and bagpipers thrice throughout the evening.

Green eggs and ham: Just kidding. Take a break from St. Paddy’s Day shenanigans at Jazz UpFront. Owner James Gaston is throwing a birthday bash with Springfield R&B, jazz and funk masters SmoothTimes. 8-11 p.m. Saturday; $10 online, $15 at the door.
