Bloomington Police officer Bryce Janssen said a juvenile male was apprehended outside the high school and that no weapons were found.

Bloomington junior and senior high school buildings were temporarily placed on lockdown Monday morning over what school officials said turned out to be a false security threat.

According to a statement District 87 officials released to families, the lockdown was issued “out of an abundance of caution due to a received report implying a potential security concern at Bloomington High School.”

The district said Bloomington Police were called to the scene and “swiftly addressed the situation” along with district staff.

Bloomington Police officer Bryce Janssen said a juvenile male was apprehended outside the high school and that no weapons were found. He said police were called to the school on a report that someone may have been armed.

District 87 spokesperson Gina Lavazza said no Bloomington High School students were involved in the incident.

The lockdown was issued at about 9:50 a.m. and was lifted by 10:30 a.m., according to Lavazza. Classes then resumed on a regular schedule.

“While the report turned out to be false, we take every report of potential danger very seriously, with the well-being of our students and staff being our highest priority,” the district said.

Bloomington Police are investigating.
