Flips and tricks and popcorn: The nation’s oldest collegiate circus is back for the 95th time with a Broadway-themed, family-friendly extravaganza. Directors Ivan Stoinev and Maritza Atayde are specialists in teeterboard and aerial acts, so you can expect to see plenty of those, plus unicycles, highwire, clowning, juggling and dance. 7 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday at CEFCU arena; tickets $14-$30 at 309-438-8000 and gammaphicircus.illinoisstate.edu.
As if you need an excuse to buy records: Here's one: Saturday is Record Store Day! Waiting Room Records will be open at 8 a.m. with a $1 alley sale and Coffee Hound pop-up shop. Reverberation Vinyl is the hot spot for new releases; North Street Records has a passion for secondhand deep cuts.
Get smart: TEDxNormal is a bite-sized day-long TED Talk-esque lecture series organized around a collective theme. This year, it’s “making change,” with topics ranging from labor protest music to mental health care for LGBTQ folks, to the healing process following natural disasters. 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Heartland Community College’s Astroth Community Education Center; tickets $20 at tedxnormal.net.
