Starting Monday, Bloomington-Normal's public transit service will adopt a long-term detour to avoid going into the heart of downtown Bloomington.
Connect Transit said in a news release the rerouting is in anticipation of frequent road closures as outdoor dining and events ramp up in the summer.
Starting Monday, the following detours will take effect:
Southbound travel along Center Street will be moved to Madison Street, beginning at Monroe Street. The following turn-by-turn directions will apply to the Green, Lime, and Blue Routes:
- Right on Monroe Street
- Left on Madison Street
- Left on Front Street
Northbound travel along Main Street will be moved to East Street, beginning at Front Street and continuing as the vehicle proceeds along the route. The following turn-by-turn directions will apply to the Green and Blue Routes:
- Front Street to East Street
- Left on East Street
- Resume route at East Street and Market Street
Northbound travel along Main Street will be moved to East Street, beginning at Front Street and ending at Market Street. The following turn-by-turn directions will apply to the Lime Route:
- Front Street to East Street
- Left on East Street
- Left on Market Street
- Resume route at Market Street and Main Street
Busses also will not stop at two current stops on Center and Jefferson and Main and Jefferson streets. Passengers should instead use the following stops:
- Market Street and Center Street
- Main Street and Market Street
- East Street and Douglas Street
- The Front Street transfer area
Bus schedules are not expected to change as a result of the detours.
