A former Unit 5 elementary school teacher faces an 18-month conditional discharge after pleading guilty to criminal trespassing.

Macon County court records indicate Jonathon Hovey, 52, reached a plea agreement in which prosecutors agreed to drop a felony charge of stalking and causing a person distress. Two weapons charges against Hover were also dropped.

The charges stemmed from an incident in which Hovey allegedly stalked an instructor at the Macon County Law Enforcement Training Center near Decatur as he was trying to get hired.

Hovey also pleaded guilty in March in Nashville, Tennessee, to a misdemeanor assault charge stemming from an alleged rape and battery in 2021. Court records indicate the rape charge was amended to assault and the sexual battery charge was dismissed.

Hovey was sentenced to one-year probation in that case.

Hovey previously taught first grade at Glenn Elementary in Normal. He was charged in 2020 with predatory criminal sexual assault and sexual abuse. Those charges were later dismissed after a witness was unavailable to testify in court.
