Ghosts on tap: Each year, Heartland Theatre’s 10-minute play festival premieres short scripts selected from hundreds of entries. Loosely themed on ghosts—friendly ones and spooky ones—the winning plays hail from both coasts, the Midwest and one British playwright from across the pond. Through June 15 at Heartland Theatre Company; tickets $19 at heartlandtheatre.org.
Let's get physical: Put your stamina to the test in Central Illinois’ longest-running multi-sport event at Comlara Park. The event is open to all ability levels, with options to swim-bike-run, run-bike-run—or cheer-cheer-cheer if you missed yesterday’s registration window. First wave kicks off 8 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Lake, 130001 Recreation Area Dr., Hudson. tri-shark.org.
Two words: Sponge Bob! The national organization Penguin Project produces well-known plays and musicals featuring kids and young adults with developmental disabilities. The McLean County chapter’s production is on this weekend, and it’s the chef’s kiss of musicals: SpongeBob SquarePants! Through Sunday at University High School; tickets $10 at the door and penguinprojectmclean.org.
