The Normal Town Council is moving up the timetable for the Guaranteed Energy Savings contract for work in Uptown Normal.

The $1.5 million project will replace aging building infrastructure for the Children’s Discovery Museum and Ecology Action Center.

Initial plans were for the project to last over two years, but Veregy LLC says repairs to the Ecology Action Center need to be completed sooner than later, while avoiding future price increases.

“The new factor here is the Ecology Action Center which had an equipment failure, so we are doing this at the same time, which was not initially planned,” City Manager Pam Reece told town council members Monday night.

Other items approved during the 15-minute council meeting included authorizing Mayor Chris Koos to execute a design, not to exceed $63,000, for a sculpture park master plan, and a resolution awarding a $137,000 contract for a cooperative equipment purchasing plan for Savannah Park.
