Republican Ross Webb is dropping out of the 2024 election for a seat on the McLean County Board.
In a statement, Webb cited a job opportunity outside McLean County as his reason for leaving the race.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey, including my campaign team, volunteers, donors, and most importantly, the constituents of District 10,” said the statement. “It has been an incredible experience to engage with the community.”
His departure leaves Democrat Erica Larkin as the sole candidate from the 10th District that covers the east edges of Bloomington and Normal.
McLean County GOP chair Dennis Grundler said in an email the precinct committeemen in the 10th district will hold meetings to select a new candidate.
"We would like to thank Ross for his efforts and want to wish him well on the new direction his life is taking him and his family," Grundler said. "Ross will be missed."
Webb announced his candidacy in August 2023. He previously was a member of the Bloomington Zoning Board of Appeals and ran as a “common-sense” Republican. It was his second bid for election to District 10 after an unsuccessful campaign in 2022 when he lost to incumbent Chuck Erickson and current board member Corey Beirne.
Erickson was defeated in the March 2024 primary for the Illinois’ 88th House District seat. That race was won by Regan Deering, who is unopposed in the November election.
