3 things to do this weekend: Swing dancing, bug watching and country at the Castle

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of July 26-28, 2024, curated by WGLT's Lauren Warnecke. You can find more coverage on our Datebook - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WGLT's Weekend Scoop email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

Cut a rug: The Twin Cities’ only rockabilly band, Union Avenue, plays live sets at Six Strings—perfect for swing dancing! Two left feet? No problem. Tutorials start at 7 p.m., with El Bandido Yankee Tequila tastings bringing the liquid courage. 7-10 p.m. Saturday (doors at 6:30 p.m.); $5 cover charge. Details on Facebook.

Rock out: Muscadine Bloodline is perhaps best known for their song Pieces, a collab with Lainey Wilson that circulated radio waves a few years ago. But these boys from Mobile, Alabama haven’t yet gotten the credit they deserve, perhaps because their Southern rock-infused, throwback outlaw country sound flatly refuses to go fully commercial. 8 p.m. Saturday at the Castle Theatre (doors at 7 p.m.); tickets $29.50 at thecastletheatre.com.

Cavort with beetles: Underwood Park in Normal hosts a nighttime bug-finding session. Junior entomologists and their grown-ups can view nocturnal moths and beetles up close with support from area experts. 9-10:30 p.m. Saturday; free. Details on Facebook.
