3 things to do this weekend: Horror flicks, haunted house and a toast to Dave Matthews

A creepy clown walks toward the camera on a dark, tree-lined path. Behind him, a fortune teller with a purple crystal ball sits at a table.

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of Oct. 11-13, 2024, curated by WGLT's Lauren Warnecke. You can find more coverage on our Datebook - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WGLT's Weekend Scoop email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

Make it a double (feature): Perhaps the only thing better than the Normal Theater’s year-end holiday line-up is their month-long, rangy celebration of spooky season. They’ve got double and triple features all weekend: Nightmare on Elm Street, Hocus Pocus and Psycho are on, plus deeper cuts like Wes Craven’s New Nightmare and the experimental 1977 Japanese comedic horror Hausu. It’s possible to survive on popcorn for a weekend… right? Horror films run through Oct. 31 at the Normal Theater; tickets $7 at normaltheater.com.

A Typical Situation: Around since the mid-1990s, the long-running tribute band Trippin’ Billies is the next-best thing to Dave Matthews himself. The band plays every era of Dave, but this year they’re toasting the 30th anniversary of Under the Table and Dreaming. 8 p.m. Friday at the Castle Theatre (doors at 7 p.m.); tickets $18 at thecastletheatre.com.

Scream at the VFW: Terror on Washington St. has been supplying seasonal scares in an old VFW for the past three decades. Kiddos and those seeking a few less screams have the option for a $5 “friendly ghost tour” at 5 p.m. Saturday. 7-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday (repeats 10/18-19 and 10/25-26) at 513 E. Washington St., Clinton; tickets $20 at 217-935-3364 and clintonhauntedhouse.com.
