The first Illinois State Steinholding Championship was hosted recently at Destihl Brewery in Normal. Watch the video recap above. The competitors had to compete at one of the men’s or women’s qualifying events across Illinois in order to compete at Destihl.
There were men’s, women’s and children's competitions. The men and women champions won over $500 worth of prizes, the children’s champion won a free slushie.
Rule list:
- Hold the stein by the handle, not the mug.
- The thumb may not rest on the stein, it can only touch the handle.
- Limited arching of the back is permitted. The elbow cannot cross the back of the ankle.
- Significant leaning to the left or right is not acceptable.
- The stein must be held directly in front of the competitor with a locked elbow.
- The hand not holding the stein has to be at the side. Using the other hand to brace the back is not permitted.
- Spilling water is not permitted.
The men and women competitors got three rule violations before they were tapped out by a judge, and the person who held their stein the longest won.
